This masterpiece that was made possible with hours and hours of shooting on location for several days during the FITC event in Toronto. Back in Ottawa, there were many more sleepless nights behind the computer to finish the post production. A huge thank you to Will Reid, Director of photography and content at Stock-Archive.com and Victory Arts who busted his ass to make this video as slick as it is.

Good Question > Images on Stickers

We had a good question from one of our members yesterday. She attended the FITC Event and picked up some of our sweet swag. We had a bunch of wicked buttons and skater stickers. They asked if the images on the stickers were part of our stock archive collection to license. The answer is yes! Here is the link to the skater image files, and we also included some matching surfer dudes and chicks. The XL file is in Vector format which is a single file download, however if you are an illustration or dual subscription member, you can download any Small, Medium or Large file on-demand for the duration of your term. Industry news: CSTC "Fades to black".

Now this is a real shame. We were extremely shocked and saddened to see that the Canadian Screen Training Centre (CSTC) has been forced to close its doors due federal and provincial funding cutbacks. It actually hits us hard as my previous company (MõSHON Digital Media Inc.) sponsored and worked very closely with the CSTC and SIFT in the 1990's.

The CSTC, founded by Tom Shoebridge in 1981, trained more than 7,000 screen professionals and had offered some 600 workshops from coast to coast.

We can respect good quality graffiti and support the artists that take it seriously. Done right it is amazing. Were not big fans of random tagging that are littered throughout our streets. However, as objective as we can be, we can only see it as a stepping stone for some of these artists who mature and put their skills to use for good and evolve the next advancements in our society because these people are passionate about what they do. Passion drives creativity which builds progress and advances our future leaders.

The Graffiti Research Lab is a great example to show the general public that sometimes the people just trying to express themselves are the people who will use their minds for progression and good causes to advance our world or to help inspire those who are less fortunate. Kyle is one of the most talented people we know, Kyle is a designer, photographer and laser graffiti artist. He plays by his rules and does things his way. Oh sure, we hear that all the time, but who really does it. Actions are stronger than words. Kyle is all about action and new inspiration. Only a couple weeks ago Kyle was the lead designer for the Ottawa Senators Hockey Club for the NHL. Year after year this guys work is amazing and keeps getting better. So, what does he do next? He leaves! Two weeks notice and bang, off he goes to Australia with his camera and laptop with no agenda other than looking for the next creative project or something that inspires him. Okay Kyle, you've got my undivided attention and utmost respect... and you've probably just made about a thousand new groupies because of this blog post.

It isn't everyday someone has the guts to just pick up and leave a great job, great salary with an amazing benefits package with a gym membership and tickets to hockey games/concerts to just go be inspired. Damn, I wish I had your guts. I'm weak, but stronger because of your spirit. Giver Kyle, and send us a post card or tag some laser messages for us in Austrailia.

As we were prepping some images from a few years back we found some great Clip Art illustrations of Santa/Christmas that are great for invites or event specials.

Have you noticed that suddenly everywhere you go Christmas is all "modern and chic"? A few weeks late on the "Hero" profile but well worth the wait.

We thought we'd slice together a little preview to really give you the feeling and mood of these images. You really need to watch the video to truly appreciate the uncomfortable elegance these amazing images emit. So beautiful yet so edgy and dark. Madoka captures intense energy in her shots and we are still trying to figure out how she does it. Madoka is a very talented photographer that lives in Chiba, Japan. We spotted Madoka at the Algonquin College photography exhibit. While she was leaving back to Japan after school we were lucky that she was interested in coming to visit and shoot with us as part of our internship program. We were fortunate to have her intern with us here in Canada. Madoka is continuing to produce content for Stock-Archive.com from Japan. It is a pleasure to work with this amazing talent. One of our members asked if they can use the audio tracks for their demo reel and asked what type of credit recognition, if any is needed.

The answer to the question is, no official credit is required on the demo reel (provided you are not implying that you created the music yourself). That wouldn't be cool. We certainly do welcome and appreciate any credit given. Something like "Photos by Stock-Archive.com" or "Audio by Stock-Archive.com" if possible.

Hero > Anton Sop

While you and I sleep at night, Anton Sop begins his work shift. I've known and worked with him for about 10 years now and we figured out early on that this guy does not do a day job. Anton thrives for the dark sky and glowing light to be inspired whether it be coding or taking photos. That is cool with us. We like to work with people who do things in their own way. We knew Anton as a guy who would work with us for code and unique programming skills. Since he was such a master with code, we wondered what he would do with a camera? Other than spilling coffee in it, falling off monuments with it and breaking it, he has taken photos that are absolutely awe-inspiring. With no training Anton takes "Vanessa" (the camera) and has captured hundreds of amazing images for us from a unique perspective that we never would get from anyone else.

In honour of his birthday, we put a video together titled "REMSOP". This montage of his work shows you exactly how these images translate when used in a project. Amazing. you'll watch it over and over. The images we used in the video are also for free on the www.Stock-Archive.com promo site. While the time- lapse video clips and other video clips he produced for us are not on the free site, they will be available when the site launches. We thank him for his amazing work on both the Stock Archive website and the great photos he has taken for us.

Sleep is good. Sleep aids the process by which creativity forms associative elements into new combinations that can open up new creative directions that we can't even imagine during our waking consciousness.

We like to work with the night birds who sleep during the day and play at night. Their creative view is very different than everybody else. We like that... we like it very much. Anton Sop is one of those amazing people who see beauty in all the places that other people can't, or they are just too blind to see it. These raw and gritty images tell stories that can be used to inspire, create a mood or maybe shock your audience. We respect the image, the man and the idea behind it. We even left the sensor dirt in place and kept the images "unedited" as cleaning them would be a disservice to the image, the photographer and to you the end user. Don't believe it? While it has only been a few days since you left on your journey back home to Japan, your presences is already missed here at Stock Archive and Victory Arts.

For those of you who think you don't know Masayo, there is a good chance you know her because of her amazing work. Masayo produced endless amounts of quality illustrations, photos and motion graphics for us here at www.Stock-Archive.com and www.victoryarts.com.

Masayo came to us from Algonquin college where she was graduating from the Graphic Design program. We got a call from the Graphic Design Coordinator one day before co-op started asking if we had room for one more student. We said yes and boy are we glad we did. Masayo proved to be a major asset to our illustration portion of the archive. Masayo has pumped out hundreds if not thousands of amazing illustrations for the archive, illustrations you for you to take advantage of each week on our free promotional site and our later once we launch. Each conference we've attended people would always stop and comment that the illustration was amazing! We agree it is amazing because Masayo is amazing! Wow thanks for the amazing feedback on the vector aquatic illustrations (Illustrated by our very own Masayo Shimizu who just sadly moved back to Japan. We miss her already! She will be featured as our next Hero so check her out).

Some of you were asking for a photo with goldfish and water bubbles.... yes, we do have blue water also. But who says that water always has to be blue? Blue is so 1989. We are 2009 and we are red hot right now we added some red water and orange gold fish to the bowl. Take a chance and see what happens. Pretty cool if you ask me. These amazing photos were done for us by an intern who Masayo introduced to us. Madoka Nemoto came all the way from Japan a year ago today to intern with us for a month. As much as I hated the 3D dancing baby of the 90's, I almost find it hard to believe how much of a fan I am of this video by Evian water for "EvianBabies"
I think the thing that made my day is that I was watching this video with my 9 month baby girl who was sitting on my lap smiling, giggling and bouncing as the babies roller skated away. We had to watch it a couple of times for her to have her fix... but I'm sure she'll be back for more later.

From time to time we get people requesting some images. We'd love to be able to get every request out to each of you, but time, (lack thereof) kinda stops that from happening. We do however from time to time randomly select from the list of member requests in order to help out as best we can. One recent request by one of our members was for Butterflies. It seemed rather urgent, so, we spent the weekend and gathered a variety of styles and formats for this person and hope these images will help with what they were looking for. We also think these will give you some great possibilities with your projects too! So in a last minute attempt, we somehow managed to get a booth spot at the HOW Conference [ www.howconference.com ], get an airline ticket... with that ticket being the last seat to Austin Texas and even managed to get a room in a hotel that was supposed to be "all booked up". Luck was certainly on our side for this one. Talk about procrastinating! It should be a great event. We were hoping to have the site up in time for the How event... but, it looks like we are most likely launching sometime in July. Some fine tuning still to do before we take the reins off and let this wild stallion go free. If you are planning on attending the HOW event then please come visit us at our booth. See you there!

Seeing as July 4th is right around the corner we figured some of these odd... yet intriguing and somewhat patriotic images might find a place in your concepts. We didn't go too crazy with "all" the images we selected. We chose images that had a little unique edge to them and yes... some nice plane-jane very safe shots that your clients will want. We are in Austin Texas right now at the How design Conference http://www.howconference.com so we gotta run!

Ooops we did it again. Just finished the video that we produced for the FITC 2009 [ www.fitc.ca ] conference in Toronto. This event was huge and much larger than last year. It certainly lead to some good times for sure! We were thrilled to be asked back again to capture and cut the video for FITC Toronto 2009. Essentially our mandate was to cover the event and produce a highlight video that pretty much mashes together 4 days of amazing speakers into a 3 minute video of the event along with its parties, the presentations and the amazing "Get a Job" event. The challenge for us this year was how do we make it look different than last years video. This year the theme was "Outside the lines", Joshua Davis [ http://www.joshuadavis.com ] created the 2009 theme for FITC this year, We wanted to compliment the creative idea but also give it our own little edge. Instead of giving it a slick "glossy" production value we decided to keep it a little more "gritty" and "raw" in style and flavour.... we think it worked out just fine. Check it out for yourself.

Ever get one of those days when your designing something and you have a massive a creative block? Happens to me all the time. I typically just go for a walk, chill or sometimes I just do some creative mish-mashing to reformat my mind. Well, this week I was somewhat "creatively blocked" while selecting the free images. So, I put two and two together and just banged out the free images by mashing them together, thus, making the free images and generating some new content for SA. Ugly? Yea maybe... but there is a use for it. Maybe alone they might not do much for ya, but, I think putting them into a pattern like you see above might make for a cool background or hopefully will inspire you to do something cool with them. If you do.... show us. we'll profile you and what you did.

A Sneak Peek: HD motion clips: Vicky

Besides shooting stills and creating illustrations... we've also been busy creating some wild motion graphic HD clips. While we've got a batch of amazing "Line Works", "Motion Masks" and a bunch of other animated clips, we have also been producing precision based HD clips that use steady cam, dolly and Jib arm to capture shots. We even got a bunch of Raw shots that are just hand held, gritty and show the reality of this crazy world.

This mini movie was a tribute to our camera named "Vicky". This batch of Royalty Free stock clips was shot in one car ride home by the "Vice Admiral", (our D.O.P.) Vice, went home with the camera, shot clips on his way home, ate some dinner, neglected his girlfriend and worked until 3AM and came in the next day ( at 8:00AM I might add ) with this mini movie that showcases what his "typical drive home" is like everyday. As you can see we are shooting content all the time. There are no real work hours here... we shoot when we see things or when we are inspired... not just during regular work hours. Above and beyond the call of duty Sir Vice.... Nice work!

Free images: A tribute to "Human spirit"

Sorry for being late with the Free images! I bury my nose every day in my work. When I was younger (Age not disclosed), I worked about 14-16 hours every day including weekends. Now, I still pretty much work the same amount of hours but somehow am able to do three times the amount of work...( not that it is a good thing ) ... but I find it interesting how strong the human spirit can be when you are working on something you love to do. Things are different now as I have a little munchkin that I adore and am trying to spend as much time with her juggling two businesses at the same time, one that barely brings in enough money to live while the other (This one) funnels any, all and even borrowed money to build Stock Archive. Why we give stuff away for free is a very good question .... especially, when we are always on the brink of pure exhaustion. How do we do it? I honestly can't quite tell you but, my philosophy is to always work on something that gets you excited, working with what you've got, work with people who get your vision, have patience... lots of it.... and just when you feel like it is all going to fall apart, keep pulling on some good-old-fashioned "Human spirit" from others that can pull it all into focus. Seriously I'm dead tired! But it is interesting where you can pull energy or inspiration from. From family, a good friend and his son, a great neighbor, a special pet or even people you don't know who are willing to help you out. So, some how every week (For 79 weeks now) I somehow am able to find an extra two hours of energy to source, find and prep the free images for the developer to setup the page and upload the Free images for you all. I sincerely hope you all enjoy the images because that right now is the best reward I could ever ask for. I'm one tired papa.

Speaking of feeding off some "Human spirit"... I'm off to go play with my little kid for a while and tuck her into bed....And, then get back to work. The kid is cool and inspires me to push on. That good karma should give me at least another 4 hours till midnight and then I'll feed her again and we all can get some shuteye.

YUP! We are dead meat alright. We know thousands of you are coming to get your free images this week and they are not up yet! Yikes.... I now know what it feels like to have a bulls-eye painted on your back.... So for that we are sorry. We do however have a great excuse... one that we think you will forgive us for. We have been so busy testing the site and getting the content ready for the launch that we didn't have time to get the Free content up for this week yet. Now, it is coming and should be up this week. You'll also be happy to know that even once we launch the Free site will still be there for you to get and use as part of our promotional campaign. When is the actual launch? Great question! We don't want to give an exact date but it is very soon. We are in the final testing stage and have about another 20,000 stock elements to prep.

This week we thought we'd share some of the images we are using in a project we are working on. These brainstorming ideas, scribbles and rough drawings are just perfect for our video and could certainly find a place in one of your projects. Keeping the quality on the "Bad" setting sometimes gives you a "Cool" look. These messy scribbles and rough drawings have a certain something special to them. In Photoshop just try Overlay or Multiply to these images in your project and you'll suddenly see the image just come alive.

The word "Art" and me never really got along. Not a fan of art but always admired design. Hence why I got into the field. I'm still trying to come to terms with the whole "Art" thing. Always hated when people called me an artist. I'm a designer, a creative director, we take photos.... then people will tell me "You're an artist". Maybe they are right. But maybe they are wrong. Who knows, who cares. This weeks "Works of art" / free images are a collaboration of our team, some computers and cameras.

What inspired this weeks free images was a screw up with our HDR compositing software. It came out with some weird, yet interesting effects (see the ghetto blaster shot). So, instead of trashing the images we thought they'd make a nice addition to the archive. While we only had a few HDR image screw-ups... it inspired us to do some monster mash-ups of our own. So maybe, the computer and software is the real artist in the end. It created the movement. We just rolled with it.
